Assam: Dry days announced in Guwahati on account of GMC Elections

Guwahati: The Kamrup-Metropolitan district administration has declared dry days for the ensuing GMC civic polls slated on April 22.

The order of dry days by the Kamrup-M district administration will come into effect on 4.30 PM on April 20 to 4.30 PM of April 22.

Dry days have been announced in Guwahati and neighbouring areas in connection with the GMC civic polls.

Besides, there will be dry day on the day of counting on April 24 till the process of counting is over including the day of re-poll if any within a polling area.

“There will be a total ban on sale of liquor, giving or distribution of spirituous, fermented or intoxicating liquors or other substances of alike nature at a hotel, eating house, tavern, shop or other place – public or private. All bonded (wholesale) warehouse, IMFL retail ‘OFF” & ON” shops including club & hotel ON and country spirits shops will remain closed during the DRY DAY. During, this period the storage of liquor by individuals shall be curtailed,” the order said.

During the above period the restrictions provided in the excise law on the storage of liquor in unlicensed premises shall be vigorously enforced, said the order adding, steps shall he taken to prohibit sale of liquor in adjoining areas of all the sixty wards of the Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC).
