Assam: DSP’s Tip-Off Leads to Liquor Seizure at Guwahati Residence; Parents Abscond
Guwahati Police, acting on a crucial tip-off from a serving Assam Police Service (APS) officer, unearthed a significant stash of foreign liquor from a house in the Malibagan area under the Latasil police jurisdiction on Thursday.
The residence, owned by the Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) currently stationed in Sonitpur district, was allegedly being used by her parents to conduct an illegal liquor distribution racket.
Law enforcement sources revealed that the DSP’s parents, including her father Dhan Das, managed to escape the premises before the police could complete their raid. Inside the house, authorities discovered numerous cartons filled with foreign liquor.
Notably, this is not the first instance of Dhan Das’s involvement in such unlawful activities. He had previously been apprehended for operating a similar illicit liquor business in the Uzanbazar area. Police records indicate that despite prior arrests and warnings, he persisted in the illegal trade.
In a surprising twist, it was the DSP herself who provided the vital information to the Latasil Police, exposing her parents’ illegal enterprise. Sources suggest that the officer had severed all ties with her father due to his continued engagement in liquor smuggling.
Presently, the police have initiated a search operation to apprehend the absconding parents and are actively investigating the extent of the illegal liquor network.
