Assam: Dumper Accident Averted on Sribhumi Bypass Amid Hazardous Conditions
Guwahati: A major accident was narrowly avoided on the Sribhumi bypass late at night on February 18 when a dumper lost control and ended up precariously hanging on a divider near the railing of a bridge. The driver escaped unscathed, averting what could have been a tragic incident.
According to eyewitness accounts, the accident occurred due to low visibility caused by dense smoke from a nearby garbage dumping site, which frequently smolders and spreads smoke across the area, particularly during the night. The poor visibility resulting from the smoke has been linked to multiple accidents on the bypass in the past.
Residents have repeatedly raised concerns about the hazardous conditions, but despite the growing safety risks, authorities are yet to implement effective measures to address the issue. The lack of administrative action has sparked public outrage, with locals urging for immediate intervention to prevent further mishaps.
The incident highlights the urgent need for better safety regulations and environmental management around the Sribhumi bypass, as continued negligence could lead to more severe accidents in the future.
