Assam Duo Arrested in Kerala for Toddler’s Abduction and Ransom Demand

Kochi: In a swift police operation, two individuals from Assam, including a transgender person, were arrested for allegedly kidnapping a one-month-old baby in Aluva, near Kochi. The accused, identified as Rinki (20) and Rashidul Haque (29), were taken into custody on February 15 after authorities tracked them down following the abduction.

According to police reports, the infant, born to a Bihar native, was forcibly taken, and the kidnappers allegedly demanded ₹70,000 as ransom. Law enforcement received an alert about the crime around 8 PM on February 14, prompting an immediate investigation. Acting on preliminary leads, officers reviewed crime records of transgender individuals at the Aluva East Police Station, which led them to identify Rinki as a prime suspect.

Upon reaching Rinki’s rented residence, police discovered that she had already fled with the child. This triggered an extensive search operation, including a thorough review of CCTV footage and coordinated inspections at major transit points such as railway stations, bus terminals, the airport, and district borders.

At around 10 PM, law enforcement successfully intercepted the suspects’ vehicle near Koratty, preventing them from transporting the child to Assam. The baby was safely rescued, and both accused were taken into custody. Following their arrest, they were presented in court, where they were remanded to judicial custody. Authorities are continuing further investigations into the case.
