Assam Education Minister Announces School Head Teacher Positions for Larger Schools, Contractual Teachers’ Regularization
Guwahati, 23rd May: Assam’s Education Minister, Dr. Ranoj Pegu, unveiled significant reforms aimed at enhancing the educational landscape in the state. On May 23, Pegu disclosed plans to introduce designated head teacher positions in schools with 100 or more students, alongside the regularization of contractual teachers’ employment, ensuring greater stability within the educational workforce.
“The process will take place from this academic year. As the academic session began from April 1, 2024, and we were busy with the elections, the documentation process has already begun and will try to end the process in this year itself. While the regularization of contractual teacher jobs will be also done in this academic session. Have already received the maximum number of approvals. And those who don’t wish to regularize their jobs can remain in contractual positions. Maximum number of teachers have applied the option to regularize their posts,” affirmed Ranoj Pegu.
For clarity, Samagra Shiksha, Assam (SSA), mandated contractual and state pool teachers to make a choice between regularization and remaining as contractual teachers by January 30, 2024.
Under the new directive, teachers in both categories have been presented with two options: to voluntarily opt for the regularization of their services, entailing initial scale pay benefits starting from the proposed date of joining, which will be determined subsequently, or to continue as contractual teachers, retaining the current financial benefits and service conditions.
This move signifies the government’s commitment to bolstering the education sector by providing leadership roles in larger schools and ensuring job security for contractual teachers, thereby fostering a conducive environment for both educators and students alike.
