Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu Announces 12-Day Special Leave for Teachers to Learn Vipassana Meditation
Guwahati, 29th November: The Assam education department has rolled out a special optional 12-day leave for teachers, aiming to facilitate their learning of Vipassana meditation—an ancient mindfulness technique. Officials state that this initiative is designed to enhance teacher capacity. Simultaneously, the introduction of Vedic maths in Assam’s school education is underway.
Following a government order, the Axom Sarba Siksha Abhiyan Mission has directed district commissioners and principal secretaries of autonomous councils to ensure the widespread dissemination of this information among teachers. Currently, teachers are actively participating in the training at a center in Chandrapur.
Despite a lack of a clear stance from teachers’ organizations, the Students’ Federation of India (SFI) has expressed opposition to the initiative, citing concerns about its potential disruption to regular classes.
