Assam: Eklavya Gham To Recieve Pratima Pandey Award, 2022

Guwahati: The All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) will confer the Pratima Pandey Award, 2022 to Eklavya Gham. The award will be presented on December 27 on the death anniversary of Pratima Barua Pandey.

The fact that the concert is being held on the anniversary of the legendary vocalist Pratima Barua Pandey’s passing is noteworthy. She introduced Goalparia Lokageet to the world.

Eklavya Gham is a well-known folk artist saint from Dhemaji.

Popular Assamese folk singer Pratima Barua Pandey was a member of the Gauripur royal dynasty. Barua has won a national honour. She is credited with bringing back Assam’s traditional form.

Barua’s songs belonged to a particular cultural group, primarily the Rajbongshis. Pratima Barua’s Goalparia geet gained enormous popularity among the general public.

She is best known for the timeless Goalparia melodies “Mur Mahut Bandhure” and “Hastir Kanya.” She was the niece of filmmaker Pramathesh Barua.
