Assam: Elderly couple ties the knot at Guwahati Old Age Home
Guwahati: In a beautiful celebration of love, 65-year-old Jayaprabha Bora and 71-year-old Padmeswar Goala exchanged vows in a traditional Assamese wedding ceremony at the Pramod Talukdar Memorial Old Age Home in Guwahati, Assam on Friday.
The couple, who met at the old age home last March, fell deeply in love, with Jayaprabha captivated by Padmeswar’s soulful singing of Bihu and Hindi songs.
The home’s administration, with the help of public donations, organized the wedding, which was attended by over 4,000 guests.
The bride, dressed in a stunning mekhela sador, and the groom, beaming with joy, followed all the traditional rituals of an Assamese marriage. The wedding was a testament to the power of love, which knows no age bounds.
According to Utpal Harshavardhan, secretary of the old age home, “The couple had expressed their desire to get married, and we were happy to fulfil their wishes.”
The newlyweds will now live together in a specially decorated room at the home.
The wedding was a grand celebration, with food and festivities galore, and was made possible through generous public donations.
