Assam: Elderly Woman Killed in Fatal Encounter with Wild Elephant at Kaliden Tea Estate

Guwahati, 14th May: In a tragic incident, an elderly woman was allegedly killed in a fatal encounter with a wild elephant in the Kaliden tea estate in Kaliabor.

The victim has been identified as Lucia Ekka.

The incident, which occurred on line 12 of the tea estate, has cast a somber shadow over the community.

According to reports, the unfortunate event unfolded during the late hours of the night as Lucia Ekka emerged from her house. It was then that she encountered the wild elephants, becoming the target of their aggression.

The ferocity of the attack left Ekka with severe injuries, prompting urgent medical intervention. She was swiftly transferred to the Tezpur Civil Hospital in a bid to save her life. However, despite the efforts of medical personnel, the injuries sustained in the elephant attack proved insurmountable, and Ekka tragically succumbed to her wounds at the hospital.

The incident serves as a poignant reminder of the dangers posed by human-wildlife conflicts and highlights the need for proactive measures to ensure the safety of residents in areas prone to wildlife intrusion.
