Assam: Election Commission Announces Schedule for 2024 Lok Sabha Elections
Guwahati, 16th March: The Election Commission of India has officially announced the schedule for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, marking the commencement of the largest democratic exercise in the world. The elections will be held between April and May 2024 to elect 543 members of the Lok Sabha.
The electoral process will be conducted in multiple phases across various states, with detailed phase-wise schedules and the list of states going to polls available on the official website of the Election Commission.
In Assam, polling will take place in three phases:
1st Phase: April 19, 2024
- Sonipur
- Lakhimpur
- Dibrugarh
- Jorhat
- Kaziranga
2nd Phase: April 26, 2024
- Diphu
- Karimganj
- Silchar
- Darrang – Udalguri
- Nagaon
3rd Phase: May 7, 2024
- Barpeta
- Kokrajhar
- Dhubri
- Guwahati
The results of the Lok Sabha elections are scheduled to be announced on June 4, 2024.
With a staggering 10.5 lakh polling booths established nationwide, the Election Commission is committed to providing a seamless voting experience, equipped with essential facilities to accommodate all voters, including those with special needs.
Empowering the youth has been a focal point of this electoral process, with approximately 1.8 crore first-time voters and 19.74 crore young voters in the 20-29 age group. Collaborative efforts with icons like Sachin Tendulkar and Rajkummar Rao, along with social media campaigns and radio engagement, aim to amplify youth participation in the democratic process.
