Assam: Elephant Attack Claims Youth’s Life in Golaghat District

Guwahati, 4th November: In a tragic incident, a youth lost his life during a wild elephant attack in Assam’s Golaghat.

The incident took place in the Rongbong area, which falls under the jurisdiction of Golaghat Forest Division.

On a fateful Friday night, the victim attempted to disperse a herd of elephants that had been causing a commotion in the region.

The youth, identified as Babu Kurmi, went to confront the agitated elephants in Rongbong. Unfortunately, he was fatally attacked on the spot.

Following the incident, forest officials and the police immediately arrived at the scene.

His body was taken for post-mortem to the Golaghat Civil Hopital.

The man-elephant conflict has remained a persistent challenge for the residents of Golaghat, particularly in areas like Numaligarh and Morongi. Local communities have endured countless sleepless nights as wild elephants wreak havoc in agricultural fields, destroying crops and other produce. In light of this ongoing issue, farmers are earnestly appealing for government intervention to implement measures that can mitigate this menace.
