Guwahati: Carcass of a wild elephant was found from a river at Numaligarh in Golaghat district of Assam on Friday night.
It is suspected that the elephant died after falling into a sandpit which was mined illegally.
According to reports, locals in the Doigrung River first spotted the jumbo, following which they alerted forest officials.
The exact cause of death is yet to be ascertained.
