Assam: Elephant Herd Roams Lakhipur, Prompting Safety Measures by Forest Officials
Guwahati, 22nd May: A herd of 42 elephants has been traversing Lakhipur in Goalpara, sparking concern among residents and necessitating swift action from forest officials. These elephants have sought refuge in the Lakhipur Reserve Forest area, notably around Ambari, over the past two days.
The elephants, driven by the quest for sustenance, have been exploring various sections of the Lakhipur forest. During one instance, the herd lingered on Ambari Road in Lakhipur for approximately half an hour, raising the possibility of encounters between humans and elephants.
Forest personnel acted promptly, halting vehicular and pedestrian movement on Ambari Road to ensure public safety. Subsequently, as the elephants gradually moved towards Banani, normal traffic flow resumed in the area.
Authorities remain vigilant, closely monitoring the situation to avert any potentially hazardous encounters between the elephants and local residents.
