Assam: Elephant tramples man to death at Bijni in Chirang

Guwahati, 3rd March: In a tragic incident that occurred at the Indo-Bhutan border in Bijni, Chirang district, as a man fell victim to a fatal encounter with a wild elephant on March 2.

The incident has left the local community in mourning.

The victim, identified as Durjo Narzary, aged 46 and a resident of Sonapur on Notun Mati No. 10, met his untimely demise in the vicinity of Notun Maati number 12.

 According to reports, Narzary had ventured out to inspect his mill garden on the fateful night, only to encounter the wrath of a wild elephant.

In a swift and tragic turn of events, Narzary fell prey to the elephant’s aggression, succumbing to the attack on the spot.

The sudden and violent nature of the encounter left Narzary with no chance of survival, plunging his family and the local community into grief.

Following the incident, authorities from the forest department promptly responded, reaching the scene to recover Narzary’s lifeless body.

The body was subsequently transported for postmortem examination, as investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal attack got underway.

The tragic incident underscores the ongoing challenge of man-elephant conflict prevalent in regions bordering wildlife habitats.

Despite efforts to mitigate such conflicts, instances of human casualties at the hands of wild elephants continue to pose a significant threat to the safety and well-being of communities residing in these areas.
