Assam: Embankment Damage Raises Flooding Concerns in Karimganj

Guwahati, 29th May: The onset of the rainy season has brought alarming news from the Baraigram area of Karimganj, where several embankments, including one along the Longai River in Isaganj village, have suffered significant damage.

Reports indicate a distressing crack in the embankment along the Longai River in Isaganj village. Large sections of the embankment have already submerged, causing concern among residents. The potential consequences are dire, with nearly two hundred villages facing the threat of inundation if the embankment fully gives way. The rising water levels of the Longai River only exacerbate the situation, heightening fears of widespread flooding.

Adding to the urgency, reports have emerged of another embankment breach, this time in the Bajarghat area, during the night. The news compounds the already precarious situation, further heightening concerns for the safety and security of residents in the affected areas.

Authorities are under pressure to respond swiftly and decisively to address the embankment breaches and mitigate the risk of further damage. Emergency measures are likely to be implemented to reinforce the embankments and safeguard vulnerable communities from the looming threat of inundation.
