Assam: Employee of Majuli District Child Protection Unit Arrested for Alleged Embezzlement
Guwahati: An employee of the District Child Protection Unit in Majuli, identified as Abinash Saikia, has been arrested on charges of embezzling government funds. Saikia, who was employed on a contractual basis, is accused of misappropriating approximately Rs 1.5 lakh meant for official purposes.
The arrest came after Sangeeta Baruah, the in-charge of the District Child Protection Unit, lodged a formal complaint against Saikia. Acting swiftly on the complaint, the Garmur police detained Saikia from his residence in Kathnibari village, Kamalabari. He is currently being questioned at the Garmur police station as authorities investigate the specifics of the alleged financial irregularities.
A case has been registered against Abinash Saikia under multiple legal provisions, including Sections 54/24, 316(5), 318(4), and 336(3) BNS. The investigation is ongoing, with the authorities focused on gathering evidence and ensuring legal accountability for the alleged misuse of public funds.
The case underscores the need for stringent monitoring and accountability measures to prevent misappropriation of resources allocated for child welfare and other essential services.
