Guwahati, 30th October: Former MLA, senior politician, and ex-minister from Assam, Sarat Barkotoky passed away on October 30. Barkotoky was a senior politician who served as a minister of state in former Chief Minister Hiteswar Saikia’s cabinet.
Sarat Barkotoky, born on March 1, 1935, in Mathurapur, Sonari, was a staunch Congressman who continued to win Legislative Assembly Elections until 2016, where he lost to BJP candidate Topon Kumar Gogoi by 24,117 votes. He was one of the ten cabinet ministers who lost in the election. His contributions to Assam’s political landscape will be remembered.
