Assam Exceeds Job Pledge, Over 119,000 Hired, More Openings Announced
Guwahati – Assam Finance Minister Ajanta Neog announced on Monday that the state government has surpassed its commitment to provide one lakh government jobs, with a total of 119,899 youths successfully appointed across various departments as of January 2025. This achievement reflects the government’s focus on fair and transparent recruitment processes, addressing the state’s unemployment challenges.
The detailed breakdown of appointments since 2021 reveals the distribution of these jobs across 54 departments, autonomous councils, directorates, and public sector undertakings (PSUs). Notably, the School Education Department saw the highest number of appointments, with 55,856 individuals hired. The Home & Political Department followed with 17,980 appointments, and the Health & Family Welfare Department employed 5,522 new personnel. Significant numbers were also seen in the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department (1,911), Environment and Forest Department (3,395), Higher Education Department (4,112), Medical Education & Research Department (3,279), Public Works Roads Department (2,730), and Water Resources Department (2,667).
Minister Neog further emphasized the government’s continued efforts, stating, “Now, we move beyond our commitment and provide one lakh plus jobs. With 40,697 already advertised, the total number of jobs being provided by our Government now stands at 1,60,596.” This announcement indicates a substantial expansion of employment opportunities in the state, building upon the already achieved figures and demonstrating a sustained commitment to job creation. The government’s focus on transparency and fairness in recruitment has been a cornerstone of this initiative.
