Assam: Executive magistrate ‘slapped’ by police, Guwahati police commissioner orders probe

Guwahati: The executive magistrate of Assam’s South Salmara district Bibhas Medhi has claimed that he was ‘slapped’ by the officer-in-charge of the Satgaon police station in Guwahati in a frightening incident.

Bibhas Medhi said in his complaint that the OC of Satgaon police station ‘slapped’ him on Monday evening while he was visiting the station to register a case against certain land brokers.

Bibhas Medhi claimed that instead of registering the complaint, Pranjit Lahkar, the OC of the Satgaon police station in Guwahati, got into a dispute with him and ‘slapped’ him.

Meanwhile, Guwahati Police Commissioner Harmeet Singh has ordered an investigation into the event.

The investigation would be led by Guwahati Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Nilotpal Deka and a senior civil service officer.

The investigation team has been given three days to present their findings to the Guwahati police commissioner for further action.
