Assam: Fake Gold Jesus Christ Statue Seized By Nagaon Police

Guwahati: At least three people were detained on suspicion of smuggling gold in Nagaon of Assam.

As per reports, many gold items were seized from their possession, police informed on Thursday.

Reportedly, the culprits were apprehended by officials from the Nagaon Sadar Police Station as they attempted to sneak the gold into Nagaon from the Lakhimpur district in Assam. Officials confiscated many gold objects during the raid, including a statue of Christ.

According to the Nagaon Police, the confiscated items included two bars in the shape of boats and two biscuits apart from the Jesus Christ statue.

Yet after careful inspection it came to light that the objects were false and not made of real gold. Nagaon Police suspect that the culprits had planned to sell the knock-off gold items in the markets, looting people of their hard earned money.

The three people detained have been identified as Saddam Hussain, Anarul Islam and Riyzaul Haque.

Moreover, following their detention Nagaon Police notified that it was discovered that their names had previously been recorded by the police for similar offences.

Meanwhile, Nagaon Police has made sure that a probe into the incident has been filed and that additional legal action would be taken in accordance with the law. Officials stated that those who were detained are being questioned in order to learn more about a potential wider fake gold smuggling network.
