Assam: Family Accuses Doctor of Medical Negligence Leading to Fetal Death in Margherita

Margherita: A local family has lodged a police complaint against a doctor at the Margerita Civil Hospital, alleging medical negligence that resulted in the tragic loss of an unborn child.

The incident came to light when Kulsuma Khatun, a pregnant woman, was admitted to the hospital on Monday evening. According to the family’s account, Dr. S. Alam, who had been treating Kulsuma throughout her pregnancy, advised them to transfer her to a private nursing home.

However, as Kulsuma’s condition deteriorated, Dr. Alam suggested transferring her to Dibrugarh for advanced medical care. The family, fearing for her life, decided to shift her to another local nursing home. While the mother’s life was saved, the unborn child, unfortunately, did not survive.

The family suspects that the child had already passed away in the womb before Kulsuma’s hospital admission. They believe that Dr. Alam’s alleged negligence in providing timely and appropriate medical care contributed to the tragic outcome. The family has demanded a thorough investigation into the matter and stringent action against the doctor responsible.

The incident has sparked concerns among local residents, who are now urged to exercise caution when seeking medical advice, particularly during pregnancy. The family’s ordeal serves as a stark reminder of the importance of responsible medical practice and accountability.
