Assam: Fatal Elephant Attack at Manas National Park Claims Local Life
Guwahati: A fatal elephant attack occurred at Manas National Park, located near the India-Bhutan border in Bijni, Chirang district, claiming the life of a local resident.
The victim, identified as 60-year-old Anil Barman from No. 2 Dailongjhar village, was part of a group that entered the park on Saturday to collect wild vegetables.
During their excursion, the group encountered a wild elephant, which launched an attack. While Barman’s companions managed to escape unharmed, Anil Barman tragically lost his life in the encounter.
Forest department officials retrieved his body from inside the national park on Sunday and transported it to his residence for the family’s final rites. The incident highlights the ongoing risks posed by human-wildlife conflicts in the region.
