Assam: Father Killed by Son Over ‘Bidi’ Scuffle in Barpeta
Guwahati: A man was allegedly killed by his son over a dispute for a bidi (A type of thin cigarette) in Barpeta district of Assam on Tuesday.
The incident took place in the Kalgachia town of the district.
The deceased was identified as Lal Miyan who was stabbed to death by his son, Samsul Haque. They were residents of the Alipur area of Kalgachia.
According to the police, they arrived at the scene after being told of the murder and captured Samsul.
He was subsequently taken to the police station, where he admitted to killing his father over a bidi when questioned.
Samsul stated that he asked his father for a bidi early in the morning and was given one, but that when he asked for a second one later, his father verbally abused him.
Both ended up bickering over the bidi, which escalated into a brawl. Samsul drew a khukuri (machete) and stabbed his father in rage.
Samsul was arrested and taken into police custody based on his statement.
