Assam: Fear Grips Titabor’s Naginizuri Area as Leopard Roams Residential Zones

Guwahati: The Naginizuri area of Titabor is engulfed in fear as residents report sightings of a leopard wandering through their neighborhoods. The alarming presence of the wild animal has reignited safety concerns in the locality, which has been on edge for the past ten days.

The first sighting was made by a security guard from the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC), who spotted the leopard, previously seen in Bijoy Nagar. This incident has heightened anxiety among locals, especially after multiple sightings and reports of livestock attacks across various localities.

Residents have noted that the leopard has been roaming freely, specifically targeting goats in the nearby Borhola area and beyond. The situation has raised significant concerns for community safety, with many families fearing for their pets and livestock.

Despite the escalating threat, the local forest department has struggled to mount an effective response to the situation. This lack of action has left residents feeling frustrated and helpless. In a bid to protect themselves, locals have pooled resources to fund a makeshift trap, hoping to capture the elusive animal. However, their efforts are hampered by a lack of goats to serve as bait, further complicating their attempts to resolve the issue.

The ongoing predicament has sparked criticism of the forest department, with residents accusing officials of failing to implement adequate measures to safeguard the community. As the leopard continues to pose a serious threat, fear and uncertainty loom over the Naginizuri area, leaving residents to fend for themselves in an increasingly precarious situation.
