Assam: Ferry Services Between Jorhat and Majuli Resume After Suspension Due to Brahmaputra’s Rising Water Levels

Guwahati, 6th July: Ferry services between Jorhat and Majuli have resumed on July 5 after being suspended for several days due to the rising water levels in the Brahmaputra River. The suspension, which began six days ago, left many passengers stranded in both Jorhat and Majuli when the water levels at Nimatighat surged to heights not seen since 1991. With the water level now receding, authorities have reopened the ferry route, providing much-needed relief to local residents and travelers.

The resumption of services has led to a significant increase in passenger traffic at Nimati Kamalabari Ghat. Many travelers have expressed their relief and gratitude for the timely decision to resume operations.

Despite the reopening, the Inland Water Transport Department has introduced specific rules and regulations to ensure safety. Notably, ferry services to Aphalamukh Ghat remain suspended, with operations currently focused on the Kamalabari Ghat route.
