Assam: Ferry Stranded in Brahmaputra River Due to Engine Malfunction
Guwahati, 23rd March: A ferry carrying passengers encountered a distressing situation when it became stranded in the middle of the Brahmaputra River near Majuli, Assam, on Saturday. The vessel, identified as SB Ghanshyam, departed from Neamati ghat on the Jorhat side but faced an engine malfunction, leaving it immobile in the river.
The ferry was en route to Kamalabari ghat on the Majuli side when the malfunction occurred, leaving its passengers, consisting of 98 individuals along with 25 motorcycles and three four-wheelers, stranded.
Upon receiving the report, a rescue operation was promptly launched, with a team from the state disaster response force (SDRF) rushing to the scene to assist. However, further details regarding the rescue efforts and the status of the stranded passengers are currently awaited.
