Assam: FIR Filed Against Khumtai MLA Mrinal Saikia Over Alleged Derogatory Remarks

Guwahati, 8th June: An FIR has been lodged against Khumtai MLA Mrinal Saikia at the Abhayapuri police station in Bongaigaon district. The complaint, filed by the district general secretary of Srimanta Sankardev Yubo Mancha, Bongaigaon, Jitu Bordoloi, alleges that Saikia made derogatory remarks against the people of lower Assam.

According to Bordoloi, Saikia’s comments, made on June 5, 2024, on various news channels, labeled the people of lower Assam as “beggars” and implied that Upper Assam is controlling the lower state. Bordoloi expressed outrage, stating that such remarks will not be tolerated by the people of lower Assam.

The complaint, addressed to the police station, requests the registration of a case against Saikia for circulating false statements with the intent to disrupt public tranquility and create conflict within the community of lower Assam. Bordoloi emphasized the seriousness of Saikia’s comments, highlighting the potential for heightened tensions between Upper and Lower Assam.

Furthermore, Bordoloi criticized Saikia for allegedly lacking knowledge of Assam’s history, indicating that such remarks display ignorance and disrespect towards the state’s heritage.

The filing of the FIR underscores the gravity of the situation and the public’s demand for accountability regarding Saikia’s remarks. Authorities are expected to investigate the matter thoroughly to uphold public trust and ensure justice prevails.
