Assam: First Third Gender Judge Arrested for Alleged Murder
Guwahati, 1st March: Swati Bidhan Baruah, the pioneering third gender judge in Assam, has been arrested for suspected involvement in a murder case, as per reports emerging on March 1.
Baruah, who stands as the third judge of the third gender in the nation, is set to participate as one of the 20 judges in the Lok Adalat scheduled to take place in Guwahati on Saturday.
Having dedicated herself to advocating for the rights of the third gender community for an extended period, Swati expressed delight over her appointment.
Swati gained national prominence in 2012 during a case filed in the Bombay High Court, where she contested against her family over issues related to gender change.
