Assam: Five Arrested by State Police for suspected gang rape of teenage girl in Bongaigaon
Guwahati, 19th May: Five people have been arrested by the Assam police on May 19 in connection to the alleged gang rape of a teenage girl in Bongaigaon.
The incident which came to light on May 18, happened in the Bhumeshwar Hills water falls area, which connects Panchagaon and Kasuwagaon and is under the jurisdiction of the Bongaigaon Sadar police station.
The accused have been identified as Jiren Sarkar, Seboram Sarkar, Biltu Rabha, Sunit Rabha and Dalim Barman.
Reports state that once the girl and her companion arrived at the spot to take in the breathtaking natural surroundings, the accused coerced them into engaging in sexual actions and took a video of it.
The defendant vowed to spread the footage far and wide. In exchange for not releasing the footage on other platforms, he demanded money.
The teenage girl was allegedly sexually tortured after being ordered to the ATM to take out money, according to the complaint that was filed.
Although there are indications of a possible gang rape, further details are awaited as the investigation is under way.
A villager expressed his shame over the incident to media. “I have to admit, this is a really embarrassing incident,” he stated. It has greatly damaged the reputation of both our hamlet and Bongaigaon district. What will people’s perceptions of our location and district be following this incident, given the volume of visitors to our district? The police ought to act decisively and punish them severely.”
The identity of the girl and her boyfriend is not yet identified. Nonetheless, the incident caused a commotion in Bongaigaon as individuals expressed their strong feelings about it.
