Assam: Five Arrested for Alleged Gang Rape of Mentally Ill Woman in Karimganj

Guwahati, 3rd July: In a swift response to a heinous crime, the Karimganj police have arrested five youths for the alleged gang rape of a mentally ill woman. The incident occurred on the night of July 1 in the Kayasthagram area of Karimganj, Assam.

Superintendent of Police Partha Pratim Das spearheaded the investigation following a prompt report of the crime. The arrested individuals, Fakhr Mia, Abdul Mastaq, Shamim Uddin, Riyaz Uddin, and Pranesh Sharma, forcibly took the victim in an autorickshaw and subjected her to a brutal assault.

Upon receiving information about the incident, SP Das ordered an immediate probe, leading to the swift apprehension of the accused. During interrogation, the suspects confessed to their actions. They are now facing charges under relevant sections of the law, including the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita Act.

The local community has expressed their horror and outrage, demanding strict punishment for the perpetrators to prevent such incidents in the future. The police are diligently continuing their investigation to gather further evidence and ensure that justice is served.
