Assam: Five Inmates Escape Morigaon District Jail, Sparking Security Concerns
Guwahati: In a shocking breach of security, five inmates escaped from Morigaon District Jail on the night of October 7, raising serious concerns about the efficacy of the facility’s security measures.
The escapees, identified as Saifuddin, Jiyarul, Nur Islam, Mafidul, and Abdul Rashid, reportedly broke the iron rods of their barracks and used blankets, lungis, and bedsheets to scale the jail’s 20-foot-high walls. The incident is believed to have occurred between midnight and 2 AM.
Local authorities, including the Superintendent of Police (SP) of Morigaon, have launched an investigation, with early indications suggesting possible negligence by jail officials.
This is the second such incident this year, following a similar escape from Tezpur Central Jail in March 2024, where three prisoners managed to flee by crossing the jail’s perimeter wall.
