Assam: Five suspected Al Qaeda linked arrested in Barpeta
Guwahati: Five persons have been arrested including a Bangladeshi national for having alleged links with a Jihadi outfit of Bangladesh having affiliation to Al-Qaida in Indian subcontinent on Saturday.
The arrestees identified as Md Suman alias Saiful Islam is a resident of Bangladesh, Taimur Rahman Khan from Howly while Khairul Islam, Badshah Suleiman Khan and Noushad Ali is a resident of Kalgachia town in Barpeta district.
Based on an intelligence report shared by the Special Branch of the state police, the Barpeta police apprehended the five persons from areas under the Howly, Barpeta and Kalgachia police stations.
According to preliminary investigations, the accused Md Suman alias Saiful Islam is a Bangladeshi national who entered India illegally and worked as a teacher at Dhakaliapara Masjid.
“Saiful Islam had successfully indoctrinated and motivated four others to join the module of Ansarullah Bangla Team (ABT) with a view to develop Barpeta district as a base for Jihadi work and unlawful activities of Al-Qaida and its related organisation. Incriminating documents and electronic devices were recovered from their possession,” said the release.
It may be mentioned that documents and electronic devices were recovered from their possession.
