Assam flood claim 3 lives and affect over 4 lakh people
Guwahati, 25 June: The persistent flooding in Assam has tragically claimed three lives and affected a staggering 407,771 people, according to the most recent Assam Daily Flood Report. Thousands of people have been forced to flee their homes as a result of the devastation caused by the floodwaters across the state.
The condition of the impacted populace gets worse as the monsoon rains continue to unleash their wrath. Among those affected, there are 53,119 children, 167,538 women and 187,114 men who are currently coping with the flood’s aftereffects.
A stunning 221,587 individuals live in the Bajali area, which has experienced the worst effects of the floods. Barpeta is not far behind with 103,996 impacted persons and Nalbari says that 40,668 people are suffering the terrible effects of the rising waters.
The situation continues to be dire as major rivers including the Brahmaputra near Tezpur and Neamatighat surge over danger levels. 15 districts and subdivisions including Bajali, Baksa, Barpeta, Chirang, Darrang, Dhubri, Dibrugarh, Goalpara, Golaghat, Jorhat, Kamrup, Lakhimpur, Nagaon, Nalbari and Tamulpur are currently dealing with the devastating effects of the floods.
In addition to forcing individuals from their homes, the disastrous floods also took a heavy toll on animals. The terrible floods have had an impact on a startling 410,055 animals including 201,880 large animals, 144,890 small animals and 63,285 poultry. Tragically, 964 animals have been lost in the flood.
Rescue efforts are being carried out to evacuate and help people in need. In order to rescue those who are trapped, five boats have been sent out and 14 people have already been saved and taken to safety. In addition, one animal has been safely evacuated and 18 medical teams have been dispatched to help those in need of treatment.
Not only floods have destroyed lives but they have also had a negative impact on vital infrastructure. According to reports, four large infrastructural disasters have taken place, adding to the difficulties faced by the impacted populations. Embankments which are essential for protecting against flooding have also been severely damaged with 15 embankment breaches reported throughout the impacted areas.
Urban regions continue to experience a dire scenario with waterlogging becoming a major worry. The citizens of Ward No. 1 in the Dalgaon revenue circle of the Darrang district are suffering greatly as a result of the flooding of Kharupetia Town.
