Assam: Flood-Hits in Bilasipara Tehsil; Residence Takes Matters into Own Hands
Guwahati: The residents of Hatipota village in Bilasipara’s Dhubri are struggling to cope with the devastating floods caused by the Brahmaputra River.
Despite repeated pleas to local authorities, no concrete action has been taken to mitigate the situation.
The floods have resulted in the loss of hundreds of acres of agricultural land and several homes, leaving many families without a stable source of income or shelter.
The lack of response from local legislators, parliament members, and departmental authorities has added to the frustration of the affected residents.
In a bid to find a solution, local residents and newly elected panchayat representatives have taken matters into their own hands.
With their own funds, they have initiated the construction of a bamboo dam to prevent further flooding. The project was inaugurated by Phulbar Ali Mandal, panchayat regional member, and Julika Begum, member of ward number 6 and president of the Hopeful Committee.
The community-led initiative has become a talking point in the entire sub-district, highlighting the proactive approach of the panchayat representatives and the determination of the local residents to find a solution to their problems. The success of this initiative, however, remains to be seen.
