Assam Floods and Landslides Death Toll Rises to 26
Guwahati: The death toll from the Assam floods and landslides has increased to 26, with three more fatalities reported, despite the situation showing signs of improvement. According to the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), the number of affected people has decreased to 2.59 lakh.
As per the ASDMA bulletin, 32 revenue circles and 741 villages in 11 districts continue to be affected by floodwaters. The Barak valley districts of Sribhumi, Hailakandi, and Cachar remain the worst-hit, with 1,62,108, 51,663, and 36,271 people affected, respectively. In total, 2,59,093 people are impacted, and over 24,000 displaced individuals are taking shelter in 100 relief camps.
Meanwhile, ferry services over the Brahmaputra River in Guwahati have partially resumed. The Guwahati Madhyam Khanda Ferry Service will operate temporarily from the Guwahati Rajaduar Ferry Ghat, while the Guwahati Kurua Ferry Service is set to resume on Monday. However, the operation of wooden boats in the Guwahati area remains prohibited, pending a review of river conditions.
The floods have also affected agriculture, with over 6,311 hectares of cropland still inundated, according to the ASDMA. The authorities continue to monitor the situation and provide relief to those affected.
