Assam Floods Impact Over 6 Lakh People Across 10 Districts

Guwahati, 4th June: The flood situation in Assam has escalated to alarming levels, affecting more than 6 lakh individuals across 10 districts. In response, the state government has established 191 relief camps and 108 relief distribution centers in the affected areas to provide essential assistance. Rescue and relief operations are being conducted by teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) to mitigate the impact on affected communities.

Government sources report a rise in flood-related casualties, with four individuals losing their lives and four others reported missing in Cachar district alone. This brings the death toll to 18, highlighting the severity of the situation and the urgent need for effective intervention.

The floodwaters have submerged 577 villages and caused significant damage to over 6,000 hectares of crop areas, worsening the challenging conditions for farmers. Additionally, the Northeast Frontier Railway has been forced to cancel or partially cancel several train services on the New Haflong – Chandranathpur section due to extensive damage to the tracks. These disruptions further complicate relief efforts and transportation.

The state government and disaster response teams continue to work tirelessly to provide aid and ensure the safety of those affected by the floods.
