Assam floods: Water level continues to recede; but over 6 lakh still remain affected

Guwahati: The flood situation of Assam has improved with all rivers flowing below the danger levels and no death being recorded.

Nearly, 6lakhs of people are still suffering due to the floods.

As per the report released on Saturday by the Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), a total of 6,27,874 individuals in 506 villages across 11 districts of the state are suffering until now due to the floods.

Reportedly, the districts of Bajali, Cachar, Chirang, Dibrugarh, Dima Hasao, Golaghat, Hailakandi, Hojai, Kamrup, Karimganj, Morigaon, Nagaon, Sivasagar, and Tamulpur is still affected by the floods.

However, the total of 4,28,827 of the 6.2 lakh people affected by the floods are in the Cachar district, followed by 1,43,422 in Morigaon and 34,723 in Nagaon.

According to ASDMA, agriculture covering more than 8,912 hectares is still underwater in six districts.

Meanwhile, no casualties have been reported in the past 24 hours as 190 deaths assigned to floods and landslides remains the same.

As per report, 130 relief camps have been managed in nine districts by the district’s authorities, whereas shelter has also been provided to 50,167 people.

It needs to be mentioned that in Barpeta, Morigaon, Kamrup, Sivasagar, Udalguri, and Dibrugarh, among other areas, homes, roads, embankments, and other infrastructure have all suffered damage because of the floods.
