Assam: Food Poisoning Outbreak in Sipajhar Hospitalizes 15, Including 2 Children

Guwahati, August 26, 2024: At least 15 people, including two children, have been hospitalized due to food poisoning in Sipajhar. The affected individuals experienced symptoms such as fever and severe vomiting after consuming chira (flattened rice) and curd from a local household.

Initially, 12 people, including several from the same family, were rushed to the Pathrighat Block Primary Health Centre for urgent medical care. Concurrently, three members of another family in the same area exhibited similar symptoms after eating a meal at their residence.

All 15 victims were admitted to the primary health centre, where medical personnel provided emergency treatment to stabilize their conditions. Given the severity of their symptoms, four individuals, including two children, were referred to Mangaldoi Civil Hospital for more advanced care.

Local health authorities are investigating the source of the contamination and have urged residents to exercise caution with their food consumption to prevent further incidents.
