Assam: Forest official died during departmental fitness test

Guwahati: A Forest Department employee from Haflong, died shortly after the start of the departmental physical fitness exam in Assam’s Dima Hasao district on Tuesday.

The deceased was identified as Bigesh Thaosen.

According to reports, Thaosen took part in a departmental physical fitness test in which he was required to walk a 7-kilometer in two hours from the Autonomous Council Rotary to Abraham View Point in Jatinga. But he died just after started walking at around 6.30 am.

The body was sent to Haflong Civil Hospital for post mortem.

It may be mentioned that all employees were warned that if they fail physical fitness tests, they will be subjected to VRS. In view of the incident, all Forest Department field workers, up to and including Forest Range Officers, are required to participate in a walking test, which is followed by medical fitness testing as part of the physical fitness exams.
