Assam: Forest Officials Shoot and Kill Two Poachers in Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary

Guwahati, 22nd June: Late Friday night, forest officials at the Charaihagi forest camp area within the Laokhowa Wildlife Sanctuary in Nagaon, Assam, encountered and fatally shot two poachers who were smuggling fish in Rowmari Beel.

The deceased have been identified as brothers Jalil Uddin and Sameer Uddin, residents of Dhingbari Chapari village in Juria. The confrontation occurred during a routine patrol conducted by forest department officials, which quickly escalated into a confrontation resulting in gunfire.

After the incident, authorities swiftly transferred the bodies to Nagaon Hospital for further procedures. In response to the shooting, a significant deployment of police and additional forest department personnel has been mobilized to the site to maintain security and order.

The encounter underscores ongoing efforts by wildlife officials to combat illegal activities within the sanctuary, ensuring the protection of local wildlife and habitats against poaching and smuggling activities.
