Assam: Forest Range Officer of Lakhipur Debabrata Gogoi arrested on graft charge
Guwahati: A Forest Range Officer of Lakhipur town in Assam’s Cachar was caught red-handed with the bribe money he took from a person on Wednesday by the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (VACB) wing of Assam police.
The forest range officer has been identified as Debabrata Gogoi.
According to reports, Gogoi posted as Range Officer in Jirighat Under Cachar Forest Division
Reportedly, Gogoi ran away from the office and was caught at a distance of about 1 Km from the Range Office by a team of Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption.
This was informed by Assam Special DGP Law and Order GP Singh on social media.
“Our fight against corruption continues. Today, a team from the Directorate of Vigilance & Anti-Corruption caught red-handed the Forest Range Officer, Lakhipur Cachar, Shri Debabrata Gogoi with accepted bribe money. It may be mentioned that on seeing our team the Ranger ran away from his chamber along with bribe money and was caught at a distance about 1 km from Range Office by V&AC team after a hot chase,” read a post shared by GP Singh.
Gogoi was caught red-handed immediately after he accepted a bribe of Rs 20,000 from the complainant.
The tainted bribe money was seized from the possession of Debabrata Gogoi in the presence of independent witnesses.
An additional amount of Rs. 20000 was also recovered from his possession soon after the operation.
It may be mentioned that Gogoi has a history of Charging People Following Corrupt Practices. He is even accused of allowing illegal transportation of stone- chips from Forest Reserve Areas.
