Assam: Former ADC Saibur Rahman Granted Bail in Village Headmen Appointment Scam
Guwahati: The Gauhati High Court on Wednesday granted bail to former Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Saibur Rahman in connection with the village headmen (Gaonburha) appointment scam.
Rahman has been granted bail by the court today following the conclusion of the case’s hearing on May 23 of last year.
He was granted bail on all the cases.
Rahman was granted bail in November on the charges of accumulating disproportionate assets worth more than Rs. 100 crores. He was arrested on August by CM Vigilance Cell.
Rahman was awarded bail in the case because the CM Vigilance Cell did not turn in the chargesheet despite the court’s 90-day deadline.
The chargesheet has 90 days to be submitted by the CM Vigilance Cell.
SP of CM Vigilance Cell, Rosy Kalita countered that they were not late in presenting the chargesheet. The court stated that the vigilance cell’s Tuesday (November 23) submission of the 92-page chargesheet was tardy because the 90-day term had already expired on Monday.
The 90 days have not yet passed since Rahman’s arrest on August 24, according to Rosy Kalita.
The CM vigilance unit launched an investigation after receiving a complaint indicating that Saibur Rahman had previously acquired disproportionate assets through illegal and fraudulent ways.
He was charged with violating the 2018 Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act.
