Assam: Former AGP MLA Dalim Roy Passes Away at 85

Guwahati: Dalim Roy, a veteran of the Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and a former MLA from Golakganj, died on Monday night after a protracted illness. He was 85.

According to reports, Roy has had respiratory issues for a long time. He died in his home in the Halakura neighbourhood of Golakganj, in the Dhubri district.

Roy was elected to the Assam Legislative Assembly from the Golakganj constituency in 1985, and he was a close aide of AGP leader and former Chief Minister Prafulla Kumar Mahanta.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma expressed his condolences on the death of the renowned AGP politician.

Taking to Twitter, he wrote, “Saddened by the demise of veteran AGP leader & former MLA of Golokganj, Dalim Roy. My condolences to his near and dear ones. May his atman attain sadgati. Om Shanti!.”

Roy’s death was also mourned by state education minister Ranoj Pegu.

“Deeply saddened by the passing away of veteran AGP leader and former MLA of Golakganj, Sri Dalim Roy. Condolences to his family and prayers for the departed soul,” he tweeted.
