Assam: Former BJP MLA Ashok Sarma Joins Congress, Criticizes BJP Leadership

Guwahati, 9th August: Former Assam BJP MLA Ashok Sarma has officially joined the Congress party, citing dissatisfaction with the current leadership and functioning of the BJP in the state. Sarma, who resigned from the BJP a week prior, joined Congress in Nalbari District on August 9. His move was endorsed by Congress state President Bhupen Borah, Leader of Opposition Debabrata Saikia, Jorhat MP Gaurav Gogoi, and other party leaders.

Sarma expressed his grievances against BJP leadership, accusing Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma of undermining the party and damaging its reputation. He alleged that he, along with other founding members of the BJP in Assam, felt neglected under the current administration. Sarma also suggested that Congress presents a viable alternative to the BJP, reflecting widespread discontent with the state government and promising to bring prosperity to Assam.
