Assam: Former Minister Chandan Brahma Announces Switch to UPPL, Signaling Shift in Regional Political Landscape
Guwahati, 8th April: Former minister Chandan Brahma has made headlines with his official declaration of joining the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL). Initially slated to join UPPL on April 8th in Kajalgaon, Chirang, Brahma has rescheduled his move to April 12th, as confirmed by the BPF leader himself at Chapaguri in Chirang.
Brahma’s decision to switch allegiance to UPPL carries significant weight, given his substantial following of 4 to 5 thousand supporters. This move underscores a notable shift in the region’s political dynamics and reflects mounting tensions within the Bodoland People’s Front (BPF).
The departure of Brahma from BPF sheds light on longstanding internal rifts within the party, exacerbated by criticisms over his perceived lack of recognition. His transition to UPPL comes at a time when BPF activities have experienced a lull following their defeat in the previous assembly elections.
Moreover, Brahma’s decision is expected to catalyze a wave of defections from various party factions, with several leaders poised to join him in aligning with UPPL. This impending realignment suggests potential shifts in regional political alliances, setting the stage for a dynamic and evolving political landscape in the region.
