Assam: Former minister Chandan Brahma Resigns from BPF, to join UPPL on April 12
Guwahati, 10th April: Chandan Brahma, a former minister, has officially announced his departure from the Bodoland Peoples Front (BPF) and his switch to the United People’s Party Liberal (UPPL). In a letter addressed to the president of BPF on April 10, Brahma stated his resignation from the party.
Initially scheduled to join UPPL on April 8 in Kajalgaon, Chirang, Brahma postponed his move to April 12th, as confirmed by a BPF leader at Chapaguri in Chirang.
Brahma’s decision carries significant weight, considering his substantial following of 4 to 5 thousand supporters, marking a notable shift in the region’s political landscape. His departure from BPF underscores underlying tensions within the party, exacerbated by internal criticisms regarding his perceived lack of recognition.
This move by Brahma comes amidst a period of relative inactivity within BPF following their defeat in the previous assembly elections. Moreover, his decision to switch parties is anticipated to catalyze further realignments within regional political alliances, with several leaders from various factions poised to follow suit and join UPPL.
