Assam: Former NRC Coordinator Prateek Hajela Summoned by Court Following Criminal Revision Based on CAG Report

Guwahati, 15th November: Former National Register of Citizens (NRC) coordinator Prateek Hajela has received a summon notice from an additional district and sessions judge following a Criminal Revision filed by Luit Kumar Barman based on the CAG report on the NRC update exercise in Assam.

The court has asked Hajela to appear on November 17, 2023, at 10:30 AM and file objections if any. Failure to appear may result in an Ex-parte hearing.

In August, the State Government granted voluntary retirement to Prateek Hajela amid confusion over the allegations against him, including financial irregularities related to the NRC update.

Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma instructed the Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Department to file cases against Hajela, emphasizing that he would need to cooperate with any police summons.
