Assam: Former Tezpur MP Iswar Prasanna Hazarika Passes Away at 88

Guwahati, 13th May: Former Member of Parliament from the Tezpur Lok Sabha constituency, Iswar Prasanna Hazarika, breathed his last at Fortis Escorts Heart Institute, New Delhi, at 9:30 am today. He was 88 years old at the time of his demise.

The management of Fortis Hospital confirmed that Hazarika’s passing was attributed to a prolonged heart ailment and related complications. A resident of Delhi/Noida for over five decades, Hazarika was a distinguished academic and professional.

Having excelled in his Matriculation, Hazarika pursued his education at prestigious institutions such as Cotton College, Banaras Hindu University, and the Delhi School of Economics. He furthered his studies with a Barrister Degree from the UK and was a member of Lincoln’s Inn. Throughout his illustrious career, Hazarika held prominent positions, including Chairman and Managing Director of MMTC, Director on the Board of NTPC, Chairman of ASEB, and senior roles in GAIL, SAIL, among others.

Hazarika served as a Member of Parliament for the Tezpur Constituency from May 1996 to December 1997. Born in 1937 to Tirtheswar Hazarika, a lawyer and freedom fighter, and Mokshada Devi, Hazarika’s lineage was deeply rooted in the Indian independence movement.

The funeral procession for Iswar Prasanna Hazarika is scheduled at the Lodhi Cremation Ground at 5 PM. His invaluable contributions to society and governance will be remembered with reverence and gratitude, leaving behind a legacy of service and dedication to the nation.
