Assam: Four-Year-Old Girl Drowns in Dulani River During Family Picnic
Assam: A tragic incident occurred in Bijni, Chirang, on Sunday, leaving a community in mourning.
Four-year-old Barbie Basumatary, a resident of No. 1 Bhetagaon and a student at Joungma Residential Bodo Medium Senior Secondary School, drowned in the Dulani River while celebrating her birthday with her family during a picnic.
The family had visited the riverbank in Moutara, Bongaigaon, to enjoy a festive day. However, during the celebrations, little Barbie mysteriously disappeared. A frantic search ensued, but the child was nowhere to be found.
The following day, the devastating news emerged. Barbie’s lifeless body was discovered floating in the river. Police officials from the Gerukabari Outpost swiftly responded to the scene, retrieved the body, and transported it to Bongaigaon for a post-mortem examination.
The untimely demise of young Barbie has deeply saddened her family and the entire community. The daughter of Ashok Basumatary, a resident of Kumarsali, Bijni, her loss has cast a pall of sorrow over the region.
