Assam: Gajraj Corps Honors Veterans in Mega Tamulpur Rally
Guwahati: Tamulpur, Assam witnessed a powerful display of respect and support as the Indian Army’s Gajraj Corps, under the Eastern Command, orchestrated a grand Ex-Servicemen Rally.
The event, held under the poignant banner “Bhootpurv Sainik, Abhootpurv Yogdaan, Aapko Saadar Pranaam,” drew an impressive gathering of over 4,800 ex-servicemen and their families from across Lower Assam, marking a significant reaffirmation of the Army’s commitment to those who have served the nation.
Lieutenant General Gambhir Singh, AVSM, YSM, General Officer Commanding, Gajraj Corps, extended heartfelt gratitude to the veterans for their unwavering dedication and sacrifices. He emphasized the Army’s steadfast support in ensuring their well-being. The rally became a platform to honor the sacrifices of war widows and mothers of martyrs, with special felicitation ceremonies. Moreover, motorized scooters and wheelchairs were distributed to disabled ex-servicemen and their dependents, ensuring their enhanced mobility and independence.
The rally served as a comprehensive resource hub, addressing critical concerns related to pensions, medical assistance, welfare schemes, and employment opportunities. Help desks and service stalls, manned by PCDA, Record Offices, and Zila Sainik Boards, provided immediate solutions, resolving 453 cases related to pensions and emoluments on the spot. Medical camps, staffed by specialist doctors, delivered crucial healthcare services, while a CSD outlet ensured easy access to subsidized goods. Furthermore, Aadhaar updating counters and financial consultation booths, established by UIDAI and leading banks, offered essential support services.
A significant highlight of the event was the Job Mela, featuring MSMEs and district administration stalls, which offered employment opportunities to veterans and their dependents. Skill development institutes and Kisan Jagrukta Camps provided guidance on entrepreneurship and agricultural ventures, empowering veterans with new avenues for livelihood. A special Agniveer scheme registration counter was also established, facilitating the wards of ex-servicemen in exploring career opportunities within the armed forces.
The rally also offered a glimpse into the Army’s rich traditions and heritage, featuring captivating displays of Khukri Drill, Gatka, Unarmed Combat (UAC) demonstrations, and a Pipe Band performance. These displays served to reinforce the strong bond between the Army and its veterans, celebrating their shared legacy of valour and service.
